In the 1800s, miners were drawn by tales of precious metals and untold wealth at the foot of South Mountain in the Arizona Territory. Later, in 1921, a house was built on about 2,000 acres southeast of the mountain, and given its original name: Casa de Sueños or House of Our Dreams. The parcel subsequently changed hands several times, and was finally named Awe Chuuke, a Crow Indian word meaning “land on the other side of the hill” or “land in the next valley.”
